Packaging And Delivery
All Marley roof tiles are provided strapped and can be, on request, palletised, shrink-wrapped or containerised for export.
Durability
Correctly installed in accordance with Marley Roofing specifications and the requirements of SANS 10062 : 2003 Code of Practice, the tiles should perform satisfactorily for the design life of the building. Normal weathering will vary from region to region. Acid rain tested, formulated to prevent the formation of algae and fungi, Marley Roofing M22-coated tiles will provide long-lasting colour uniformity and the best surface protection in aggressive urban and coastal environments.
Minimum Pitch
The effectiveness of all roof tiles and slate tiles to operate at minimum recommended pitch and headlap may be influenced by special circumstances. Where roof slopes exceed 8 metres in length and the site is severely exposed, guidance on roof pitch and lap should be obtained from Marley Roofing Technical Advisory Service. The minimum pitch and tile headlap should not be reduced under any circumstance. It is always better to increase the safety factor of the roof by adding a full course of tiles and increase the tile headlap evenly on the rafter length. On rafter lengths exceeding 8 metres and exposed situations the tile headlap may be increased, but increased headlap is not as effective as a steeper pitch.
Below minimum pitch specification - Boarding and waterproofing
Where a particular roof design dictates in some areas pitches below the recommended minimum pitch special precautions must be made. For concrete roof tiles the headlap of the tile must be increased to 120 mm and a fully supported approved waterproofing membrane must be installed over boarding or rigid sarking. See below minimum pitch specification.
Extensions and Renovations
The Marley Roofing Homestead concrete tile in the M22 coated Terracotta finish provides a good visual match to existing 'Marseilles' clay tiled roofs on older buildings. The Homestead comes with a large choice of traditional fittings and accessories. It is a very cost-effective alternative to using imported clay tiles.
Ventilation
In humid coastal regions and areas where condensation occurs, the Marley Roofing ventilated ridge tile system provides an effective free flow of air from eaves to ridge, and prevents the build-up of hot air in the loft space.
Fixing Specification and Site Work
Marley Roofing Roof Tiles, Fittings and Accessories should be installed to comply with SANS 10062 : 2004 and fixed in accordance with Marley Roofing recommendations. All perimeter tiles should be fixed and additional fixing is required in exposed and coastal areas. Refer to Marley Roofing Minimum Fixing Specifications for Marley Roofing concrete roof tiles in Southern Africa. Further details of installation and fixing of tiles can be obtained from the Marley Roofing Technical Advisory Service.
