Important Guidelines for Marley Modern roofs
Marley Modern concrete slate tiles are designed for upmarket developments where the roof is an important design feature.
Steep roof pitches (26° minimun) are necessary in order to fully appreciate the character and beauty of this profile and its exclusive finishes.
The following recommendations are essential to optimum results:
DO's
Roof Pitch: 26° minimum
Tile Headlap: 100mm minimum
Before Tiling:
- Ensure that all battening is in an absolute level plane
- Particular attention must be given to the installation of side flashings and valley liners
- Ensure that all preparatory work and work adjacent to the tiling is completed
Tiling:
- Use "broken-bond" practice only
- Use Marley purpose-made fittings and accessories
- On exposed sites and at rafter lengths exceeding 8m the tile headlap must be increased to 120mm. However, increased headlap is not as effective as a steeper pitch
DON'Ts
- Do not install Modern tiles on roofs under 26° pitch. This tile is not designed for low pitch roofs
- Do not exceed 320mm batten centres
- Do not allow the roof to be used as a working platform by other trades (see tiling and fixing specifications)
- Do not lay Modern tiles 'straight-bond'. This would automatically invalidate Marley's guarantee

Marley Modern tiles are manufactured against confirmed order.
A minimum lead time of 4 to 6 weeks is needed for manufacture and proper curing of the tiles, depending on colour and finish.
Order your tiles well in advance to avoid disappointment and to allow us to give you the service you are expecting from Marley.
M22-coated tiles deal with problems associated with colour, e.g. efflorescence or "lime bloom", providing a solution when colour uniformity is a requirement.
M22-coated tiles provide an aesthetically pleasing appearance from the start and better maintain their appearance for long lasting colour uniformity.
Please Note
Colour Uniformity
Due to natural variations in the raw materials and the occasional occurrence of efflorescence on unprotected concrete products, absolute colour uniformity on the roof can only be guaranteed with M22 Coated tiles.
Standard Throughcolour
Body colour throughout. Colouring oxides are mixed in the concrete prior to extrusion assuring throughcolour integrity for long-lasting beauty and durability. No surface finish is applied.
The manufacturer reserves the right to change the stock range without notice.
Due to the limitations of colour reproduction actual samples should always be seen before ordering.
Antique
Body colour throughout as Standard tiles. A second colour is subtly mixed at random to give each tile its unique appearance.
Rustic
Body colour throughout as Antique tiles. A textured striated surface finish is added to create a weathered, rustic appearance.
M22-Coated Tiles
South Africa's premier concrete roof tile finish. Guaranteed colour uniformity on the roof.
